As AI becomes a hot topic of discussion in the C-suite, there are many preconceived notions about AI. Some are accurate and some are based on trepidation about what AI can and will do to future business models and enterprise cost structure. In my experience of introducing many hardware and software technologies into the enterprise, I feel there is a clear methodology for bringing meaningful AI into your company. Here are the steps I suggest:
1. Identify the key business pain point: Look at your business results and identify the biggest pain point where you are not meeting the key business KPI.
2. Internal Team: Build a team of fast learners comprising domain experts for this KPI along with your data and AI architects. They need to be forward-looking leaders who are ready to challenge the status quo and are willing to try new AI solutions.
3. Data Gathering: The team should start gathering key data points around the business pain point. They should go back to the past and create an accurate data picture from the past and the present.
4. Identify the appropriate AI solution partner: Engage an AI solution partner that can work with your current state of data architecture and quickly show you the potential business KPI improvements in simulation with limited data and suggest specific actions you need to take to improve the business KPI. All this needs to be done before you spend gobs of money deploying an expensive AI solution.
5. Ensure privacy of data: All the data needs to be kept private either on the cloud or on-premise.
6. Build Conviction: If you like the findings and ROI improvements in simulation – only then enter the full-scale run time AI solution. Go step by step and very methodically.
This approach will ensure you deliver optimal business results with proper ROI-driven AI solutions economically and deliver fantastic bang-for-the-buck.
